By Dr Mark Keough, Executive Director and Co-Founder Australia’s ambition to forge a workforce built on ‘trusted skills’ faces a significant hurdle: the systemic underutilisation and often problematic implementation of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). While RPL promises a streamlined path to formal qualifications by assessing existing skills from work or life experience, saving individuals time and money, its potential is being stifled by what appears to be a complex web of institutional financial preferences, reputational gatekeeping, and a fraught regulatory environment.
